Fire Protection Sealants and Coatings

Building safety needs have continuously increased over time, prompting us to develop three aims of protection. The first aim is to limit the fire from spreading, the second aim is to protect the emergency escape & rescue route, and the third aim is to ensure function maintenance for electrical system.

Fire Sealants:

Fire sealants are used to fill the gaps and holes created by penetrants penetrating fire-rated walls. In the case of a fire, these sealants will prevent smoke, flame, and other dangerous gases from passing through these gaps, allowing us more time to evacuate. The following products comes under sealants.

  1. Ablative Coating – ASX
  2. Intumescent Filler – DSX

1. ASX-Ablation Coating

  • Fire retardant coating for cable/cable support structures, combined endothermic and weather resistant coating for internal and external areas.
  • As per MAFSC guidelines, one meter length of cable shall be coated with fire protection sealants for every 14m of length with Dry film thickness of 1.5mm.
  • 5kgs of ASX sealants is sufficient for an area of 4m2.
  • Coating shall be used as direct filler, and as paint when stirred.
  • Ablative material is used and material class confirms to DIN 4102-B2.
  • 18 months of shelf life from the date of manufacturing.

Weather resistant, chemical stability, and the ability to be painted are just a few of the attributes that set OBO Sealants apart. When applied they can withstand fire up to 4 hours, according to EN 1366-3 and EN 13501-2. It can be used on both plastic and metal conduits.

2. DSX- Intumescent Filler

  • Dispersion based fire protection compound for interior areas, to fill residual joints and close openings.
  • Approved material for closing core drill holes for individual cable glands.
  • Intumescent material is used and material class confirms DIN 4102-B2.
  • 12 months of shelf life from the date of manufacturing.

The intumescent filler has a 31 percent compression and extension capacity.
Both ASX and DSX suppress sound transmission when used.

Application

  • It can be used as fire resistant, water repellant and smoke preventive sealants.
  • Can be used as fillers in wall openings through which cables and pipes pass through and can be painted over the metallic and nonmetallic pipes, cables, cable trays, insulated pipes and other materials.
  • Can be used for both vertical and horizontal fire protection for electrical conduits.

Mounting Techniques:

Preliminary Work: The place where the sealants are to be filled should be clean and free from construction dirt and debris. Do not use any chemical solvents with sealants. Make sure the area is dry before filling the sealants. Sealants should be installed using proper tools suggested by OBO.

Mounting Instructions: Use the suggested instrument by OBO to fill the opening and fill up     to the appropriate depth using the sealants. After filling, clean the tools using the chemical solvents.

Stability & Reactivity: Reactivity with the intended use is not associated with any hazards.

Possibility of hazardous reactions: None, under normal processing.

Conditions to be avoided: To avoid thermal decomposition, do not overheat. Keep from freezing.

Incompatible materials: Strong acids and bases.

Hazardous decomposition products: No decomposition if stored and applied as directed.

Maintenance: No maintenance shall be required when installed in accordance with the applicable EN/DIN Standard. Once installed, if any section of OBO Fire Barrier Water Tight Sealant is damaged, then remove and reinstall the damaged section in accordance with the applicable standard practice.
