Suspended vertical ladders approved as standard support structure

Maintenance of electrical function according to DIN 4102 Part 12 in case of fire

One of the fire protection aims, for which OBO offers the matching fire protection systems, is the maintenance of electrical function of key electrical systems, such as emergency lighting or smoke extraction systems.

If there is a fire, to be able to evacuate people safely from a burning building, these systems must continue to function for a specific period of time. For this to be guaranteed, cables for the maintenance of electrical function must be routed in such a way that they continue to function for a sufficiently long period of time if there is a fire.

OBO Bettermann offers various routing systems which allow simple implementation of this feature and has expanded its product range to include an additional routing variant: The suspended vertical ladders.

Vertical ladders approved as suspended mounting

If, until now, the mounting of vertical ladders for the maintenance of electrical function was only permitted directly on walls for fire protection reasons, OBO Bettermann can now prove with a surveyor's report that cable routing on a suspended vertical section with the vertical ladder, type SLM50C40F, is permitted as a standard support structure for the maintenance of electrical function.

Vertical ladders, type SLM, executed as suspended mounting, fulfil all the requirements of DIN 4102 Part 12 as a standard support structure for the maintenance of electrical function classes E 30, E 60 and E 90.
The surveyor's report no. GS 3.2/17-436-4-r1 on suspended vertical sections for the maintenance of electrical function was compiled by MFPA Leipzig.

There are almost no restrictions in the selection of the cables. The additional variant of the maintenance of electrical function on a suspended vertical ladder is an efficient addition to vertical ladder mounting directly on the wall.
Thus, individual circumstances and application situations can be dealt with even better by make the mounting completely independent of the type of adjacent wall.

SLM50C40F suspended vertical ladders can be used in many mounting situations

Cable installations with the SLM50C40F vertical cable ladder, are, for example, ideal when positioning vertical cable ladders in front of lightweight partitions.

In addition, the suspended vertical ladder can be used in many mounting situations for which surveyor's reports for the construction site were previously required.

The removal of a series of these reports means a win-win situation for everyone: The user no longer has to pay for additional documents and the planner can access finished solutions, saving time.

Mounting of the suspended vertical ladders can be performed in widths of up to 600 mm and a storey height up to a maximum of 3.5 m. The vertical ladders are made up of straight profiles and screwed rungs.
The rung spacing is 30 cm. The suspended mounting of the vertical ladders can be done regardless of the design and the distance to the wall.

Ceiling fastening of the ladder rail with head plate

This is how suspended fastening of the vertical ladders works:

Ceiling fastening of the vertical ladders can be carried out either with the KUS 5 NOK head plates or the HMS 3 VW 90 angles. If the vertical ladders are fastened in a direct run under a ceiling opening, additional transverse profiles are required for bridging.
The ladder rails are positioned securely on the floor with head plates or mounting brackets. For the maintenance of electrical function in the event of fire, a distance of at least 40 mm is required from the end of the ladder rails to the floor as length compensation.
A distance of at least 40 mm is required from the end of the ladder rails to the floor, as length compensation of the rails in case of fire.
The type of functional cable can be chosen freely. The cables are fastened to the ladder rungs using clamp clips of type 2056U M. The maximum cable assignment of the vertical ladders is 20 kg/m. The diameter for individual cables is not limited and cable bundling is permitted.
