Surge protection
Surge protection is a standard requirement for good reason, as property insurance companies are reporting a continuous rise in cases of damage, making the need for surge protection measures in low-voltage electrical installations clear. Damage due to surge voltages is not only caused by direct lightning strikes, as more often, serious damage to electronic devices and systems is the result of surges from lightning strikes within a two-kilometre radius.
Surge protection is mandatory
To prevent damage to property and injury to people through surges, surge protection in accordance with VDE 0100-443 has been mandatory since 2016 in all new or extended buildings and for all new electrical installations.

Protection against surge voltages in PV systems, measurement and control technology and potentially explosive atmospheres
OBO Bettermann has developed surge protection systems that effectively protect buildings and systems of various requirements. The portfolio also includes special surge protection solutions for photovoltaic systems, measurement and control technology, data and information technology or even potentially explosive atmospheres. Surge protection in potentially explosive areas is an important topic. It is important here to protect costly measuring technology against the influence of surge voltages through atmospheric discharge. With a high arresting capacity of up to 10 kA, OBO solutions offer optimum protection for four-pole measurement and control applications.
Strong solutions against surge voltage
The surge protective devices MCF Compact 75/200, the V50 combination arrester type 1+2, the surge protective device V20 and the V10 Compact 2.0 type 2 reliably prevent surge voltages through lightning events and switching actions, which can permanently damage electronic devices or data cables. Combination arrester MCF-NAR protects against lightning and surge damage in the mains-side connection compartment (fastening on busbar). State-of-the-art semiconductor and spark gap technologies allow a high arresting capacity. The modular structure of the V50 and V20 arresters, for example, allow the implementation of various variants of 1- to 4-pin devices. With the OBO surge protective devices, you can prevent the sometimes huge costs from data loss or production downtime. The quality of the devices is VDE-certified according to EN 61643-11 by an external testing institute.
