Fireproof connections, large range of options, simple selection
In special buildings such as meeting places or sales points, hospitals and industrial buildings, safety-relevant electrical systems are required to maintain key functions in the building in the event of fire according to construction regulations. This includes safety lighting systems, fire alarm systems, supply lines for sprinkler pumps and smoke and heat extraction devices, among others. With open routing of supply lines on cable support systems, special cables for the maintenance of electrical function are installed that continue to work under direct flame exposure for up to 90 minutes, depending on the type, supplying the systems named above. The cable systems are tested and rated at an accredited testing office, such as a material testing institute, in accordance with DIN 4102 Part 12. The construction law proof of application for the products used in the electrical systems is referred to as a general construction test certificate (GCTC).
The cables used are not infinitely long and may have to be extended during installation. This is done with junction boxes designed and tested specifically for function maintenance. Above all, these junction boxes meet electrical installation requirements, providing the stipulated touch protection and dust- and water-tightness, evidenced by their IP class. In the event of fire, the connection technology in the junction box must ensure that the electrical connection withstands the very high temperatures (up to 1,000 °C) and continues to function. This is why the clamp bodies are made of ceramic material that is high-temperature resistant. OBO’s FireBox portfolio offers exactly this proven safety.

The FireBox for fireproof connections – guaranteed
Made from halogen-free, thermoplastic material and with a protection class up to IP66, the FireBox guarantees fireproof connections. Its positive material properties make it particularly robust and help reduce injury and property damage to a minimum in the event of a fire. As with all the OBO solutions for the electrical installation of cable systems that maintain the electrical function, the FireBox is tested according to DIN 4102 Part 12 and approved in the classes E30, E60 and E90. The FireBox portfolio has been redesigned, now offering variants for any area of use and all applications. The range is structured to help you find just the right solution quickly.
